The Kaiji movie is slated to be released in Singapore in March 2010.
The movie, based on Nobuyuki Fukumoto's award winning manga, tells the story of Kaiji Itō, a half-hearted part-time worker at a convenience store who ends up with a 2.02 million yen debt. He is forced by the loan shark to board the gambling ship Espoir in the hope of clearing his debt.
The movie stars Tatsuya Fujiwara (Death Note Live Action, Battle Royale), Yuki Amami (Amalfi, Ponyo), Teruyuki Kagawa (20th Century Boys, Tokyo Sonata), Taro Yamamoto (252: Signal of Life), Ken Mitsuishi (20th Century Boys, Nightmare Detective 2) and Kenichi Matsuyama(Death Note Live Action, Detroit Metal City) Taking up directorial duties will be Toya Sato (Gokusen: The Movie, Sexy Voice and Robo) with the screenplay by Mika Omori (Detroit Metal City). J-Pop singer Yui will be singing the theme song, "It's All Too Much".
